Project Description: James Watt Centre, Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh
ADP commissioned me to photograph the refurbished James Watt Centre on the main Heriot Watt University campus in Riccarton, Edinburgh.
The brief was to illustrate the new internal reconfiguration of existing spaces with the use of a new design including partitions, ceilings, floor finishes & fixed bespoke furniture.
Spaces included 2 lecture theatres and 175 study spaces – provided in settings for individual, collaborative, social and silent study plus a new café and social space allowing students to use the spaces as a ‘go to’ destination. Some panoramic imagery was necessary in order to depict the size of some of these spaces.
One of the tasks was to depict how the spaces were used by students and staff and show how ‘traffic’ flowed which was achieved by the use of long shutter speeds in order to depict movement.
The design employed natural materials and subtle colour palette and so it was important to pull out these features during the shoot whilst keeping the images looking unposed and natural.
